Groveland and Haverhill residents may once again borrow books from each other’s’ libraries.

Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini, who also serves as chairman of the Haverhill Public Library board of trustees, said the board voted Thursday to restore the cross-borrowing policy with Groveland’s Langley-Adams Public Library, 185 Main St., Groveland.

“We were pleased to institute this good neighbor policy. The Groveland library has been a good neighbor to us. Every year they make a generous donation to the Consentino School library,” Fiorentini said. Interestingly, the mayor noted, Haverhill residents typically borrow more from Groveland than the other way around. “Last year, Haverhill residents borrowed 9,000 items from the Groveland library, more than the items borrowed by Groveland residents from the Haverhill library,” he explained.

Haverhill Public Library trustees voted at the request of the mayor and Trustee and former Mayor James A. Rurak. Fiorentini explained cross borrowing privileges had been suspended when the Groveland library lost its state certification “due to a technicality.” Certification is due to be restored in August or September.

Across the town line, Langley-Adams staff thanked Chairman Beth Burton for her work restoring ties.
