Virginia (Mardigian) Ohanesian, 94, Worked for Mitchell’s

Virginia (Mardigian) Ohanesian, 94, of Haverhill, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Hannah Duston Nursing Home, Haverhill. She was the wife of the late Edward Ohanesian, who died in 1977.

Born in Roslindale, March 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Kaloust and Azniv (Ajemian) Mardigian and was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls, class of 1938. Ohanesian worked as a sales clerk at the former Mitchell’s Department Store in downtown Haverhill, and after they closed their doors, she worked for the Mills family who ran Windows Within, a custom drapery business. Ohanesian was a member of the Apostolic Armenian Church at Hye Pointe in Haverhill.

She is survived by her cousin, Edvard Hovnanian along with several nieces, nephews, and her longtime, dear friends, Carol and Ron Mills and their family.

An hour of visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 18, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Monument Square Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family-Carnevale Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill, immediately followed by funeral services at the funeral home, with The Reverend Father Vart Gyozalian of the Apostolic Armenian Church at Hye Pointe in Haverhill, officiating. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of The Apostolic Armenian Church at Hye Pointe, P.O.B. 8069, Haverhill, MA 01835.
