Joseph R. Martin, 79, Worked in Flooring, Antiques

joseph_martinJoseph R. Martin, 79, husband of Marie J. (Duchemin) Martin passed away Feb. 10 at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley with his family by his side.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Roseanna (Hevey) Martin. A lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church and All Saints Parish, he attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1954. A machinist by trade, Martin was employed in the machine shop department of the former Western Electric Corporation in North Andover and retired as a supervisor from AT&T in 1989. He worked at Market Basket as a receiver and later joined the family business, Paul Martin Antiques. He also owned Martin Distinctive Flooring. He enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod and enjoyed taking cruises. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus 202 and was active at St. Joseph’s and All Saints Parish.

Besides his wife, he is survived by children, Paul H. and Denise J. (Deveau) Martin, Robert N. and Laura (Varrone) Martin and Normand G. and Suzanne J. (Gates) Martin all of Haverhill; two sisters, Yvette Vallieres of Cape Coral, Fla., and Sister Therese Martin, SCO of Lowell; two brothers, Gerard G. Martin of Haverhill and Rev. Normand J. Martin, SM of Boston; seven grandchildren, Joseph A. Martin, Kimberly N. Martin, Kelsey Martin-Sandoval and her husband Julio, Danielle M. Martin, Michaela P. Martin, Nicholas N. Martin and Jessica J.M. Martin; and three great grandchildren, Jack N. Martin, Wells T. Martin and Radley N. Martin. He was predeceased by his sister Lillian P. Bentley.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Feb. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin Tuesday morning at 9, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10, at All Saints Parish, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hilldale Avenue, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to St. Joseph’s School of All Saints Parish and All Saints Parish St. Vincent De Paul Society, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill.
