Family Announces Funeral Details for Court Clerk Fitzgerald

Funeral services for Edward L. Fitzgerald Jr., who served Haverhill District Court for more than 40 years, take place next Wednesday.

Fitzgerald, 72, of Haverhill, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.

Known as Fitzy, he was born in Haverhill March 22, 1943, son of the late Edward L. Fitzgerald and Anne (Comparone) Fitzgerald. Raised in Haverhill, he was a graduate of St. James High School, class of 1960. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during Vietnam. He worked as a state auditor until he began his career at the Haverhill District Court. He worked for the court 40 years until his passing, serving the Commonwealth and the people of Haverhill as the first assistant clerk of courts.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Haverhill Country Club for many years, a member of the Association of Magistrates and Assistants Clerks and other professional associations,  Amvets Post 147 of Haverhill and American Legion.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 3, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 South Main St. (route 125), Haverhill, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. James Church, 185 Winter St., Haverhill at 11 a.m. Burial with U.S. Navy Honors follows in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
