Eleanor C. (Roberts) Canney, 95, School Cafeteria Employee

Eleanor_CanneyEleanor C. (Roberts) Canney, 95, of Haverhill, wife of the late Augustus S. “Gus” Canney, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Catherine (Murphy) Roberts. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1938. Canneywas employed by the Haverhill Public School system working in the cafeteria. She most enjoyed spending time entertaining her friends and family around her kitchen table, where you could always drop in for a cup of tea and something sweet.

She is survived by her children, Philip W. Canney and his wife Cathy (Fowler) of Kensington, N.H.; Douglas A. Canney and his wife Ruth A. (Constantine) of Epson, N.H.; and Susan E. McMahon and her husband Christopher of Hampstead, N.H.;  sister, Margaret “Peg” Eason of Haverhill; brother, John Roberts and his wife Arline, of Haverhill; sisters-in-law Priscilla Roberts of Groveland and Gail Roberts of Las Vegas; daughter-in-law Janet Canney; seven grandchildren, Mark Canney, Caroline Canney, Rhonda Murphy and her husband Scott, Aiden McMahon and his wife Katherine, Graeson McMahon and Emma McMahon and Peter Lenane; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Perry and her husband Chris of Hawaii and Caitlyn and Addison Murphy; as well as two great-great grandchildren, Liliana and Genevieve Perry. In addition to her husband, Canney was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Saulnier and brothers, Arthur, Joseph, Edmund, and William Roberts.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 12:30 p.m., in the funeral home. Burial is private. Contributions may be made in her memory to Merrimac Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01840.
