Matolcsy to Join Haverhill Board of Health

Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini plans to name Dr. Alexander Matolcsy to the Haverhill Board of Health.

Matolcsy, of 70 Washington St., was named to succeed Dr. Victor L. Labranche. Labranche recently retired after serving the city more than 30 years.” Fiorentini said Matolcsy’s background in emergency medicine and public health “will be an asset to the board and our community.”

“I am confident that Dr. Matolcsy will provide some guidance with dealing with opiate addiction, he has provided care for many patients with opiate dependencies,” Fiorentini said.

According to Fiorentini, Matolcsy has practiced medicine more than 35 years, most recently as an emergency department staff physician at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, Haverhill; assistant professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, University of Massachusetts, Department of Emergency Medicine. Previously, Matolcsy was the chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emergency Educational Services PC, Haverhill. He received his bachelor’s from Georgetown University and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Vienna, School of Medicine, Vienna, Austria.

“I feel honored to be able to serve a city that my wife Denise and I have grown to enjoy,” Matolcsy said. “I will do my best to serve the board of health.”

If approved by councilors, Matolcsy will join current board Chairperson Dr. Carl F. Rosenbloom and member Peter Carbone. The three-year appointment expires Jan. 26, 2019.
