Methuen High School Evacuates After Bomb Threat

Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon.

A “non-specific” e-mail threat made Wednesday morning against Methuen High School prompted an evacuation “out of an abundance of precaution.”

Methuen police launched an investigation and search at Methuen High after school officials received an email from an anonymous source at about 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, according to Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon. A state police K-9 unit also responded.

“There are no direct indications of danger to the students, faculty, or staff, and nothing dangerous has been located at this time,” Solomon said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. “We are aware that there have been a number of threats made against Massachusetts high schools in the past two weeks, but we want the community to know and understand that they have no bearing on our response and investigation today. We take every report very seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation.”

Wednesday afternoon, police reported on social media Methuen High School students were released from classes. “Students that need access to their lockers are being escorted to their lockers to obtain belongings. Students that receive bus transportation are being bussed to their respective bus stops. Students that drive are able to leave the premises in their vehicles,” a spokesperson said.
