James Drakopoulos, 95, World War II Veteran, Shoe Worker

James Drakopoulos, 95, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away Jan. 13.

He was born in Haverhill Sept. 16, 1920, son of the late Rigas and Demetra (Droukas) Drakopoulos. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was employed in the local shoe industry for many years until his retirement. Drakopoulos was an active member of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill, receiving the Diocese Laity Award in 1997 for outstanding service to his church. He also received the Man of the Year Award in 2007 from Acropolis Chapter #39 Order of Ahepa in Haverhill.

He was the husband of the late Bertha (Amanatides) Drakopoulos, father of the late Rigas Drakopoulos and brother of the late Constance Demos. He is survived by his sister Frances Babalas as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the calling hours Monday Jan. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the H. L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His Funeral Service will be Tuesday, Jan. 19, at noon, in Holy Apostles Church, 154 Winter S.t, Haverhill. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
