Emmaus Plans Family Nutrition and Fitness Fair Jan. 18

Emmaus is having a Family Nutrition and Fitness Fair in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday, Jan. 18.

A variety of health and fitness providers and organizations from the area are scheduled to be in attendance and hosting interactive booths about nutrition, wellness, fitness and healthy-living. Organizations represented include VNA Care Network, which will do a Reiki demonstration and have a wellness nurse available to answer questions; Rich Curtin, who will give a nutrition demonstration; WIC, which will share a healthy food demonstration as well as simple at-home exercises; and Mass General’s Cardiac Rehab Center, which will teach attendees easy exercises and a present a short session on cardiac disease prevention.

In addition, the Haverhill YMCA will lead a Zumba class (10:30-11 a.m.), Ocasio’s True Martial Arts will lead a self-defense class (11-11:30 a.m.) and the event will end with a Family Yoga class lead by Emmaus supporter Ann Biese (1- 2 p.m.). A free hot and healthy lunch for families will be served from noon to 1:30 pm

The fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 26 White St., and is free to families with children under the age of 18. The event is supported by the Massachusetts Service Alliance and is the fourth consecutive year Emmaus has participated in a day of service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Families may register on the day of the event if space is still available between 10 and 10:30 a.m. The first 100 families registered will receive “Active Living Kits” and pre-registered families will be entered into a raffle to win a FitBit.
