A Haverhill city councilor-elect, absent at Monday’s city inauguration and Tuesday’s council meeting, will be formally sworn in next week.
Incumbent Michael S. McGonagle missed being sworn in with his fellow councilors Monday as he was “away on a trip,” according to Haverhill City Clerk Linda L. Koutoulas. The absence, as a technicality, means he is still only councilor-elect until his swearing in at next Tuesday’s meeting in Theodore A. Pelosi Jr. Council Chambers at Haverhill City Hall.
“He will be sworn in at next week’s meeting and take his place on the council,” Koutoulas told WHAV.
McGonagle finished fourth among nine elected to the council during the city election last November.
