John R. ‘Jack’ Gorski, 80, Former Haverhill Beef Partner

jack_gorskiJohn R. “Jack” Gorski, 80, of Merrimac for the past 17 years, and a former longtime resident of Haverhill, died Dec. 31, at Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a long illness.

Born in Haverhill, son of the late John and Theresa (Crocetti) Gorski, he attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1953 until 1957 and later attended Coyne Electrical Institute in Boston. Gorski was first employed in the local shoe industry and later as a delivery driver for Fantini’s Bakery and Nissen’s Bakery and then as an assistant electrician at the Haverhill Boxboards. He was employed for many years as an assembler at Gould-Shawmut of Newburyport from where he retired 20 years ago. Gorski was a former partner of The Haverhill Beef Co. when it was located on Winter Street in Haverhill. A member of the Church of the Nativity of Holy Redeemer Parish of Merrimac, and a former member of the Garibaldi Club and the Sons of Italy, Haverhill, he enjoyed history, reading, completing crossword puzzles, and watching horseracing.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Dorine M. (Gallant) Gorski; four daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene M. Sutton of Haverhill, Robin A. Gorski-Routhier and Gerard Routhier of Andover, Margaret “Peggie” and Amos Ramos of Aurora, Ill., and Susan J. and John Amos of Irmo, S.C.; nine grandchildren, Darcelle, Chad, Amy, Lindsay, Laura, Emily, Benjamin, Daniel and Gabriella; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Norman J. and Sharon Gallant, and Roger B. and Marie Gallant; and a sister-in-law, Fern J. Gallant.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. His funeral will be Monday, Jan. 4, at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Church of the Nativity, Green Street, Merrimac. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
