Economic Development Council Honors Bevilacqua

Massachusetts Economic Development Council President-elect Trevor Beauregard presents Joseph J. Bevilacqua with a plaque.

School Committeeman and City Councilor-Elect Joseph J. Bevilacqua was honored earlier this month for his long-term leadership of the Massachusetts Economic Development Council.

He was presented with a plaque by President-elect Trevor Beauregard Dec. 10 in Springfield. Bevilacqua, who is also president of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce, has served as chairman of the private council for the past three years. He also previously served as chairman during 2001 and 2002 and was member of the year in 2007.

“The most memorable event of my chairmanship was the MEDC’s 50th anniversary meeting held at Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, Mass.,” Bevilacqua said. Although stepping down as chairman “to enable me to spend more time on local interests,” he said, he will remain on the board as immediate past chairman.

Bevilacqua received the honor after speaking at the “Building and Sustaining an Innovation Culture and Eco-System” conference, coinciding with the council’s 52nd annual meeting. The council describes itself as “the professional association of economic development practitioners serving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Established in 1963, the council provides an opportunity for professional development through council committees, programs, and has as its primary objective the promotion and development of the economic welfare of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through industrial and economic development.”

Last year, Bevilacqua was also re-elected to a second term as a director of the New England Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. The group represents chambers of commerce across New England.

  1. Joe…what have you actually accomplished besides having a title and sitting on boards?
I’ve never heard you say one thing about the intrusive tax policies mayor Failurentini has imposed on businesses in downtown Haverhill…NOT ONCE!!! You hold the positions Joe, but you never seem to have any fight in your belly for what you’re supposed to be doing in them. YOU should be helping the business owners in Haverhill, both members and non-members of the Chamber alike, to fight the parking tax, meals tax, and parking security officers hired by the mayor to penalize people going downtown that rob business owners of their profits and drive their customers away….yet you literally do nothing. And for that you get an award….it’s such a joke.
