The head of an Andover employee benefits business, accused of pulling a gun during a road rage incident, returns to court Thursday for a dangerousness hearing.
Michael W. McCullom, 51, of Andover, listed as chief executive officer of Custom Benefits Group (CBG), Andover, was arraigned Tuesday in Lawrence District Court on charges of assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon (a firearm). The arrest came after McCullom allegedly followed a snow plow operator and “the two had a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation where McCullom pulled out an unloaded firearm,” police said.

“We understand that these road conditions can be very frustrating for drivers, but this type of behavior is never acceptable,” Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe said. “Please be patient while driving and be sure to leave extra time so you can safely arrive at your destination.”
A second man, an unidentified 51-year-old North Andover resident, will be summonsed to court to face charges of assault and battery and driving with a suspended license.
According to police, McCullom was driving on Lowell Street, Andover and attempting to turn onto North Main Street. At the same time, the other male was operating a snow plow traveling in the opposite direction and also attempted to turn onto North Main Street. The two nearly crashed into each other. McCullom then followed the plow driver into a parking lot at 354 North Main St.
Andover police said responders witnessed two men yelling at each other following a phone call at about 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, from a Poor Street resident who reported a physical altercation in the parking lot.
According to his online profile, McCullom is also an investor in Data Stream Corp., where he also serves as a board member, and serves on the board of the Massachusetts Council Compulsive Gambling, Boston.
