Predicted First Snow Prompts City Parking Reminder

An expected first measurable snowfall of the season late Monday night and Tuesday morning has prompted reminders to observe winter parking rules in Haverhill.

Monday night, the city will begin enforcing even-side street parking in effect for December, according to Mayor James J. Fiorentini. Winter overnight parking rules in Haverhill, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., went into effect Nov. 15.

“The rules are easy to remember,” Fiorentini said in an e-newsletter Sunday. “Even numbered month, park on the even numbered side of the street. Starting the evening of Jan. 1, switch to the odd side of the street.”

This winter, the city will be using a flashing blue light system in neighborhoods during snow emergencies to alert residents to remove vehicles from the street or face either ticketing or towing.

“If you are in an area where cars must be off the streets, we always try to precede a snow emergency with a phone call,” Fiorentini said.
