The 12-year-old Haverhill girl, struck by a pickup truck Monday afternoon, is out of the hospital after a “Christmas miracle.”
Brian Gill, principal of John Greenleaf Whittier School, told the school community the unnamed student and her mother visited the school Wednesday morning.
“She is still in for a long haul, and needs several surgeries, but she is expected to make a full recovery. After a lot of hugs and tears, they left the school to go home and get settled. If this isn’t the true example of a Christmas Miracle, I don’t know what is. I am completely blown away by this. Prayers do work,” Gill said.
The girl was hospitalized in Boston with “serious non life-threatening injuries” after being struck late Monday afternoon near the intersection of Lawrence and Fountain Streets. Haverhill Police Captain Robert P. Pistone said a 20-year-old drove the pickup truck, but no charges were filed.
Haverhill and State Police investigators were on the scene until approximately 8 p.m.
