A 12-year-old Haverhill girl is hospitalized in Boston with “serious non life-threatening injuries” after being struck by a pickup truck late Monday afternoon near the intersection of Lawrence and Fountain Streets.

An investigation is ongoing by Haverhill police and a state police accident reconstruction team. The accident happened at 4:30 p.m., Monday, at 22 Lawrence St., according to Haverhill Police Captain Robert P. Pistone.

“Pickup truck operated by a 20-year-old Haverhill man struck a 12-year-old Haverhill girl in the street. Pedestrian was transported to (Lawrence General Hospital) and then to a hospital in Boston with serious non-life threatening injuries,” Pistone told WHAV.

The driver’s identity was not released and no charges were reported. Haverhill and State Police investigators were on the scene until approximately 8 p.m., Pistone said.

According to online posts from area residents and other observers, the young girl received mouth or facial injuries and, before being transported, was treated at the scene by “a crowd” of emergency responders and a nurse passing by the scene.
