There’s a new support group for families affected by addiction.
NFI Massachusetts, formerly Team Coordinating Agency Inc. (TCA), 76 Winter St., Haverhill, started a weekly Family Support Group as part of its Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP) Monday evening. Other offerings include an Evening Continuing Recovery Group, Tuesdays, as well as individual and family therapy.
“The Structured Outpatient Addiction Program provides treatment to adolescents, adults and homeless individuals with addiction or co-occurring mental health disorders while allowing them to maintain participation in the community, continue to work or attend school and be part of family life,” a statement said.
Established in 2005, the SOAP program provides addiction day treatment services to adults in early recovery from NFI’s outpatient facility at Winter Street. In 2008, a separate after-school component of the program for adolescents was established.
The former TCA began in 1966 as a grass roots community effort to “address a growing drug and alcohol abuse problem in Haverhill.” Since then, the agency expanded services beyond the treatment of substance abuse to become “a multi-service behavioral health organization providing a wide range of substance abuse, child protective, and mental health services in outpatient, residential and forensic settings.” Peabody-based NFI Massachusetts began as Northeastern Family Institute 41 years ago. It took over operations of Haverhill’s Team Coordinating Agency (TCA) last July 1.
