A Haverhill man was being held by police pending court arraignment on rape and assault charges after his arrest Thursday afternoon.
Antonio Melendez, 37, of 12 Observatory Ave., Haverhill, was arrested at 12:40 p.m., Thursday, at 170 Washington St. He was charged with one count of rape and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. No further details were available by deadline.
