Manchester, N.H., Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck in Andover

A 21-year-old Manchester, N.H., man was seriously injured after being struck outside his vehicle in the breakdown lane on Interstate 93 in Andover, Monday afternoon.

The unnamed individual was transported to Lawrence before being flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to State Police from the Andover barracks who responded about 3:15 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Kyle Flanagan showed the New Hampshire man was outside his 2006 Hyundai Tiburon after his vehicle was disabled. A 2006 Honda CRV, which was traveling in the breakdown lane, subsequently struck the operator of the Hyundai, who was positioned behind his vehicle at the time. The operator of the Honda, a 48-year-old man from Andover, was uninjured in the crash.

Traffic was impacted for more than two hours during the investigation and cleanup.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. State Police were assisted on-scene by Andover Fire and Rescue and Mass Highway.
