The short narrative film stars Academy Award winner Robert De Niro, was written by Academy Award winner Eric Roth and directed by the artist JR.
“Ellis,” a short film with Robert DeNiro, is being shown in Haverhill, Friday, Nov. 13. Since the film “tells the forgotten story of the immigrants who built America,” local organizers say they hope it will be “a catalyst for conversation, community and connection.”
The 14-minute short film will be presented in a continuous loop from 3 to 7 p.m., at 90 Washington St. Between 5 and 6 p.m., there will be discussions, visual histories and other activities “so that we will all collectively remember the foundations of our country through the film Ellis,” organizers said.
“This film and project are a fresh way to hear old stories that may connect and strengthen our community now,” wrote Linda Germain, who has played key roles in the “Inside Out Haverhill: Sprit and Souls” and Creative Crosswalks projects, downtown. In fact, the Inside Out and Ellis projects share the artist “JR.” On March 2, 2011, “JR” won a $1 million prize at the TED Conference in Long Beach, Calif., for the creation of Inside Out, a global participatory art project “with the potential to change the world.”
