Jorge Alfonso, 19, Recent Haverhill High School Graduate

A recent Haverhill High School graduate, Jorge Alfonso, 19, of Haverhill, died Sunday night, Oct. 25, at Wingate at Haverhill.

According to the death certificate, Alfonso died of hypoxic brain injury and pneumonia. The cause was ruled to be natural and not an injury. Haverhill School Superintendent James F. Scully notified staff by email this morning.

“Jorge was a wonderful student athlete, who was loved by everyone at Haverhill High and was just an all a round good person.  He left us too soon.”

He was born in Methuen, Jan. 8, 1996, son of Aurea (Suazo) Stanley of Haverhill and Ruben Alfonso of Holden. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Alfonso graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 2014, and was attending Burlington College, Burlington, Vt. While at Haverhill High, he was a member of the wrestling team. Alfonso enjoyed watching movies and hoped to write movie scripts.

Besides his parents his survivors include his step-father, Manuel Stanley of Haverhill, step-mother, Rosanna Alfonso of Holden; siblings, Ruben E. Alfonso of Lawrence, Samuel Stanley of Haverhill, Diego Alfonso and Amelia Alfonso both of Holden; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Thursday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., Bradford. His funeral will be Friday morning, Oct. 30 at 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
