Edward C. Powell, 77, Served in U.S. Army During Cuban Crisis

edward_c_powellEdward C. Powell, 77, of Georgetown, passed away Oct. 20, at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, Haverhill.

He was born in Reading, Nov. 3, 1937, son of the late Albert W. Powell and Dorothy Bell (Pearson) Powell. He was a graduate of Reading High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Crisis. His home and garden was his pride and joy. He was into snowmobiling, boating and camping. He enjoyed going out to eat to try out different restaurants. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Shirley G. (Perkins) Powell; three sons, Edward C. Powell Jr. and Michael Powell both of Georgetown, and Steven Powell of Haverhill; two brothers, Albert W. Jr. and his wife Gayle of Georgia, and Richard and his wife Donna of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Ralph, Robert and Jack Powell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours Friday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St. (route 125), Bradford. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date in Harmony Cemetery, Georgetown.
