Roland C. Poor, 85, Korean War Veteran

PoorRoland C. Poor, 85, husband of Pauline L. (Homan) Poor, passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, at Hannah Duston Nursing Home, Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Amesbury, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Rosamond G. (Clark) Poor. Raised in Amesbury he attended Amesbury Public Schools. He started working at a very young age in local farms. A Korean War Veteran he proudly served his country enlisting in the United States Army and after three years of service he was honorably discharged in 1954. For 45 years, he worked for the Lagasse family, 33 years as a truck driver for Brentwood Furniture Co. and also the Lagasse Amusement Company. He was a founded member of the Merrimac Santa Parade and drove the Santa float for many years. Poor also served as an Auxiliary Police Office for the City of Haverhill. He was a member of the Wilbur Comeau American Legion Post in Haverhill.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children; Roland C. Poor Jr. and his wife Deborah of Haverhill, Paul H. Poor and his wife Theresa (Morley) of Lee, N.H., John W. Poor of Haverhill, Robert M. Poor of Haverhill, Richard E. Poor and his wife Laurene (Bryant) of Haverhill, James D. Poor and his wife Brenda (Nutter) of Haverhill; a brother, Russell N. Poor and his wife Jeannette of Merrimac; 10 grandchildren, Katrina Poor, Rebecca Moreno, Christopher Poor, Jeff Poor, Paul Poor Jr., Melissa Visco, Richard J. Poor, Taylor Poor, Mackenzie Poor and Casey Poor; and five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Joseph A. Poor and his sister, Barbara Dunn.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Sunday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Mill Street, Haverhill.
