Retired Haverhill Police Officer Gene R. Huberdeau, 76, of Groveland, husband of Elizabeth A. (Jones) Huberdeau, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Raymond E. and Helen G. (O’Neil) Huberdeau. Raised and educated in Haverhill he was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1957 where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He served his country during peacetime in the United States Army stationed in the Philippines. Huberdeau was a retired police officer for the City of Haverhill for 34 years, retiring in 2009. He was an accomplished cartoonist and was known for his caricatures of his fellow officers. He possessed a great sense of humor and everyone enjoyed his Irish wit.
In addition to his wife of 34 years, he is survived by his children, Elizabeth J. (Huberdeau) Cena of Haverhill, G. Adam Huberdeau of Groveland and a sister, Norma Barone of Fla.; brother-in-law Leonard Barone; nieces and nephews, Rebecca and Patrick Murphy; Anthony and Kathy Barone; Rugga and Gino and Michael Barone; mother-in-law Patricia Jones, sister in law Kathleen Jackson and brother in law Craig Jones. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Huberdeau; father in law Abbott Jones and brother in law Dennis Jones.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St, Haverhill. Funeral services will be Saturday, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
