Gloria A. Viola, 88, Western Electric Secretary

violaGloria A. Viola, 88, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Haverhill Crossings.

Born in Madbury, N.H., on June 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Marino and Letizia (Belmonte) Viola. She was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and attended Haverhill schools. She worked as a secretary for the former Western Electric, North Andover, until her retirement.

She was a talented artist who enjoyed painting landscapes and won several awards for her work. Viola also loved to sew and make handmade braided rugs. A favorite pastime of hers was tending to her flower garden.

She is survived by her sister, Emma Metcalf of Haverhill; daughters, Linda Metcalf and Karen Mann; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, John Viola and her sisters, Armida Duprey and Madeline DiMambro.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in St. John the Baptist Church, 114 Lincoln Ave. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St, Watertown, MA 02472.
