An Atkinson, N.H., motorist is in serious condition at a Boston hospital with injuries received in a single-vehicle crash late last night in which speed was determined to be a factor.
The crash, which happened at 10 p.m., Sunday, at 118 Maple Ave., Atkinson, involved a Toyota automobile driven by Kenneth W. Jones Jr., 36, of 131 Maple Ave., according to Atkinson Police Chief Albert Brackett. He told WHAV the vehicle, with a California registration, struck a stone wall and a tree. Jones was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was medflighted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
A preliminary investigation found speed was a factor, Brackett said.
Eyewitness reports on social media via Plaistow police indicate the driver was conscious at the crash scene. “One man in car, traveling 60+. We were outside watching eclipse, saw car, waited for crash; heard it,” said Carol O’Brien Boudreau on Facebook. “One guy in car, thrown from car, face bloody, but alive, was vocalizing.”
The crash remains under investigation by Atkinson police and a New Hampshire State Police accident unit, Brackett said. Plaistow police assisted through online updates on an expected medflight landing at the Bryant Woods condominium development on the Atkinson-Plaistow town line. However, according to Plaistow police, the helicopter instead met an ambulance transporting the accident victim at an area hospital before flying to Boston.
