A man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of Groveland’s TD Bank branch earlier this month and will be arraigned today in Haverhill District Court.
Lamin Sanu, 29, of Portsmouth, N.H., was arrested Wednesday by Portsmouth police on a fugitive from justice warrant. He was wanted for the Sept. 12 robbery of TD Bank, Main Street, according to Groveland Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen. Groveland Detectives Steven Petrone and Heather Riley arrived in Portsmouth at Sanu’s home Wednesday just before 4 p.m. to assist Portsmouth police with the arrest. Following the robbery, Groveland detectives were able to gain physical evidence from the scene, later analyzed by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section, to identify Sanu as the suspect.
“I commend the work of Detectives Petrone and Riley, who worked tirelessly with the Portsmouth Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police to locate and arrest this suspect,” Gillen said. “This was a job well done by all parties.”
He was held overnight without bail at the Portsmouth Police Department. Yesterday morning, he waived his extradition at a hearing at Portsmouth District Court.
The robbery took place at 11:37 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, when a man walked into the branch and handed a note to the teller, claiming he was armed with a gun and a knife and demanding money. The teller handed the suspect an unknown quantity of cash and he fled. The suspect was described as a black male, 20-30 years of age, approximately 5-foot-11, weighting 160-170 lbs. He was wearing a blue Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap with white letters and a white brim, a black hooded raincoat, blue jeans, sunglasses and black and white tennis shoes.
