Cancelled: Hobbs-Everett Hosting ‘International Food Tasting Extravaganza’

Haverhill City Council candidate Katrina Hobbs-Everett is hosting an “International Food Tasting Extravaganza,” Oct. 10, from 2 to 8 p.m., at 409 Washington St. Haverhill.

Hobbs-Everett is the daughter of Bishop Franklin Hobbs and Co-Pastor Carolyn Hobbs of Rehoboth Lighthouse Church. She is the first African-American woman ever to run for city council.

She said her priorities are “public safety and fostering a community of non-violence, housing, shelters, homelessness, youth, senior, and veteran populations, drug use, addictions, gang involvement, mental health, education, organic sustainable businesses that create employment opportunities, supporting small business, unifying community calendars, cross-collaboration, solution driven open format community dialogue, special education, drop-out rates and out of school youth, and fiscally responsible economic decisions.”

Hobbs-Everett was educated in Haverhill public schools, graduating from Haverhill High in 1999. She received her associate’s from Northern Essex Community College in 2005 and bachelors from UMass Boston’s College of Public and Community in 2007.

She has more than 17 years of experience working with grassroots nonprofit organizations throughout the Dorchester, greater Boston and Merrimack valley area on HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention initiatives. She is the co-founder/ co-CEO of Power of Self Education (POSE) Inc. POSE’s mission is to “Empower individuals towards self-sustained social responsibility through education.” Hobbs-Everett is also a board member for Communities Together, a collaborative council of churches throughout the greater Merrimack Valley and Southern N.H. area with an urban mission to serve Lawrence and neighboring communities.
