William J. Honor, 74, U.S. Navy Veteran

William_HonorWilliam J. Honor, 74, of Haverhill, died Monday night, Sept. 14, at Mass General Hospital, Boston.

He was born in Haverhill, Aug. 11, 1941, son of the late Joseph L. and Florence (Boisvert) Honor. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Honor graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1959. He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963 aboard the USS Kaskaskia, attaining the rank of MM2. Upon being honorably discharged, he began a civilian career of more than 25 years for the Department of Defense at the Boston and Portsmouth Shipyards, until his retirement in 1995. After his retirement he was employed at the Riverfront Marina, Salisbury. An avid woodworker, Honor donated wooden toys to St. James Church, the Salvation Army and numerous charities. He was also an active member of the Merrimack Valley Ship Model Club.

His survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carol A. (Cosio) Honor of Haverhill; three sons, Joseph M. Honor and his wife Louisemarie of Mansfield, Christopher W. Honor and his wife Ruth of Lynn, Mark T. Honor and his wife Debra of Franklin; a brother, Donald E. Honor and his wife Faye V. of Haverhill; seven grandchildren, Lyndsey, Alexander, Sally, Timothy, Samuel, Lilly and Syndey Honor; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours Sunday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday morning, Sept. 21 at 11, in St. James Church, Haverhill. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
