George E. Morris Jr., 90, Co-Owned Taxi Business

George E. Morris Jr., 90, of Haverhill passed away Sept. 14 at Hannah Duston Health Care, Haverhill.

He was born in Haverhill, April 18, 1925, son of the late George E. and Gertrude (Beaucage) Morris. Morris attended schools in Watertown and Haverhill, graduating from Haverhill High School. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Merchant Service. Morris attended officer training school in New London, Conn., where he achieved the rank of third mate. He was a merchant marine for three years. He returned to Haverhill and was co-owner of a taxi business with his father. He was employed at Lucent for more than 25 years, retiring in 1987. A member of Crystal Springs Golf Club in Haverhill for over 40 years, Morris was an avid golfer. He delighted in spending many hours on the golf course with his close friends and a good cigar.

The husband of the late Virginia D. (Daniels) Morris, Morris celebrated 64 years of marriage before Ginny’s passing in November, 2014. He was the brother of the late John Morris and the late Frederick B. Morris. Morris is survived by his niece Kelly (Morris) Beaton of Groveland; brother-in-law David Daniels and his wife Lorraine along with their children David Jr., Richard and Patricia Daniels; and several dear friends, including neighbors Patty and Joe Lafontaine.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service Monday, Sept. 21. at 1:30 p.m. in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St. Haverhill. There will be no calling hours. The family expresses its appreciation and thanks to the staff at Hannah Duston Health Care Center for their compassionate care of George.
