Robert E. Greenwood, 84, of Haverhill, husband of Mary A. (Flaherty) Greenwood passed away Friday, Sept. 11, at Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Methuen, surrounded by his family.
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late George and Lorraine (Villers) Greenwood. He was raised in Haverhill and attended Haverhill public schools. Greenwood began his career in the Haverhill shoe industry then moving on to the Western Electric for many years retiring from Lucent Technologies. He vacationed on Nantucket every year for 22 years. He loved gardening and reading. He loved traditions, and cherished family gatherings on St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his children, Mary E. Carrasquillo and her husband Jaime of Salem, N.H., Patricia E. Lane and her husband Jeffrey P. of Methuen, and Kathleen A. Abromovitch and her husband John P. of Haverhill; six grandchildren, Jason R. Carrasquillo, Amy E. Carrasquillo, Daniel R. Lane, Michael P. Lane, Cory P. Abromovitch and Cameron R. Abromovitch; siblings, Joan Lavalley of Amelia Island, Fla.; Roberta Vuytowecz of Alton Bay, N.H.; Sandra Grandmaison of Haverhill; Sheila Mendelsohn of Georgetown; Linda Spero and Raymond Karigan of Bradford; and Laurence and Marie Greenwood of Haverhill. He was predeceased by his siblings, George Greenwood, Frederick Greenwood, Richard Greenwood, Lorraine Mottram and Jeannette Briton.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours Monday, Sept. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 165 South Main St., Haverhill. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, 41 John Ward Avenue, Haverhill.
