Haverhill police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect who threatened a store clerk with a needle during an attempted robbery Tuesday.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Cumberland Farms, 426 Lowell Ave.

A surveillance photo released by police shows a white male suspect described as being in his late teens to early twenties, between 5’8” to 5’10” tall, dark blue eyes, dirty blond hair, scruffy facial hair, wearing a white t-shirt and khaki shorts, according to Detective Captain Robert P. Pistone.

The suspect “grabbed a can of Coke and approached the clerk, pulled out an uncapped needle, pointed it at the clerk and demanded all of the money,” Pistone said. “When the clerk asked if the male was joking the robber stated, ‘do you want aids?’ Another customer entered the store which appears to have spooked the would be robber and he fled on foot towards McDonalds.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Haverhill police at (978) 373-1212 and, if desired, leave an anonymous tip.
