Police Continue Warrant Sweep, Arrest Five

A warrant sweep by Haverhill police Thursday nets five local people, including a man accused of assaulting a police officer, during separate arrests.

According to Haverhill police, Patrick Bent, 21, of 7 Central St., Haverhill, was arrested at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at 58 Jackson St. In addition to an unspecified arrest warrant, he was charged with three counts of assault and battery on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest. His arrest occurred about 40 minutes after police arrested David A. Diaz, 25, of 58 Jackson St., at home on unspecified charges under two warrants.

Earlier Thursday, at 1:18 p.m., police arrested Philip S. Brewster, 55, listed as homeless, at 50 Washington St. Under two warrants, he faces charges including larceny over $250 and assault and battery on a family member.

Also, police report Stephen Szargowicz, 55, of 23 Victor St., unit 14, Haverhill, was taken into custody at 8:43 p.m., Thursday, at home on a protection warrant.

Mercedes Roberts, 23, 13 Arlington St., unit 3, Haverhill, was arrested by police at 12:55 p.m., Thursday at Essex and High streets on unspecified charges under two warrants.
