Creative Haverhill Expands, Moves to Wingate Street

Creative Haverhill, which for a time served as an arm of the Greater Haverhill of Commerce, is expanding and breaking out on its own.

The organization has taken over the former Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce Community Arts And Education Foundation Inc. and moved to 21 Wingate St. Suite 104, Haverhill. Only a temporary banner in the window marks its growth for now.

“We’re finding with the new (Riverfront) cultural district, we needed something for a resource center. We’re hoping the space will become a natural welcome center,” Jenny Arndt, Creative Haverhill’s arts and culture coordinator, told WHAV. Arndt was hired in February, 2014, and the organization is largely funded by a Massachusetts Cultural Council Adams Grant.

Creative Haverhill has a management agreement with the city to oversee the Riverfront Cultural District, she said. The city is expected to provide $5,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant money as a match toward continuing Adams Grant funding, she said.

Arndt said the Wingate Street offices provides more space for interns and volunteers.

Meanwhile, the group plans to relaunch its Haverhill Artists Connection two days a week, beginning Oct. 6. The group is for visual artists, designers, photographers, writers, actors, musicians, curators, and art Lovers. It will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays for light refreshments, networking opportunities and an artist spotlight, according to an announcement.

  1. “The city is expected to provide $5,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant money …”
So now the Mayor is bribing organizations to move downtown? Watch for the photo opp….

It’s the only way vacancies downtown can be filled. You have to an organization knowing full well when they grant money is up they’ll be gone too. Meanwhile, current ‘real’ business owners suffer by the affects of government intrusion into their lives and the vicious, vindictive mayor who will target you if you dare speak out against his policies.
