Irene D. (Ladebush) Griggs, 101, Worked at Mitchell’s Beauty Shop

griggsIrene D. (Ladebush) Griggs, 101, died Sunday, Aug. 16, at Penacook Place Nursing Home, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Griggs, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage.

Born in Haverhill June 17, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret E. (Best) Ladebush. She was a resident of Bradford and Merrimac for many years. She owned and operated and worked many long hard hours at the former Mitchell’s Beauty Shop, Merrimack Street, until its closing. Griggs was a parishioner of Sacred Hearts Church, Bradford, and a former member of the Haverhill Elks Lodge #165. She enjoyed playing bingo at Sacred Hearts Church and at Penacook Place.

She is survived by two children, Gail Gillen of Merrimac and Robert Griggs of Haverhill; five grandchildren, Michael, Michele, Jamie, Matthew and Katie; four great-grandchildren, CJ, Paige, Tyler and Mason and a daughter-in-law, Mary Griggs of Newton, N.H.; two granddaughters, Dawn and Christine Day and her brother, Richard Ladebush. She was also predeceased by her son, Charles A. Griggs Jr.

A funeral service takes place Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill at 11 a.m. A period of visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Penacook Place Employee Fund, 150 Water St, Haverhill, MA. 01830.
