Police Cite Driver in River Street Rollover Accident

A Haverhill motorist was cited by police for undisclosed violations in connection with a rollover crash into three parked vehicles earlier this week on River Street.

According to a Haverhill police accident report, a 1996 Chevrolet driven by Lukas T. Hastings, 26, of 7 Kimball St., Haverhill, was traveling eastbound on River Street at 2:28 p.m., Sunday, when it went around a vehicle turning left in front of Giovanni’s Diner (formerly Blast From The Past Diner), 558 River St. Hastings drove onto a soft shoulder, struck the diner’s business sign before his vehicle skidded and rolled onto its side and came to rest against three vehicles parked in a lot at Danny’s Auto Sales, 554 River Street.

“…We went to go around it and I went too far and it was too late.” Hasting said in a statement partially redacted by the Haverhill police department. Specific violations under a citation issued by police were also omitted.

Hastings and a passenger, Matthew A. Robbins, 27, of 136 Winter St., apartment 10, Haverhill, were taken to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. In addition to the diner’s business sign, the parked vehicles received heavy rear end damage. The Chevrolet driven by Hastings received heavy side damage and was towed from the scene.

WHAV has submitted an inquiry to Haverhill Police, asking why certain details were blacked out on the police report.
