Homeless Man Faces Shoplifting Charge

A man listed by Haverhill police as homeless is due to be arraigned in district court on theft charges including shoplifting after his arrest Tuesday night.

According to Haverhill police, Matthew McFarland, 28, was arrested at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, on White Street and charged with shoplifting. He was also taken into custody on a warrant charging him with larceny under $250.

In other police news, two Haverhill motorists were arrested on unlicensed driving charges during separate traffic stops.

Haverhill police report Christopher J. Hanson, 44, of 69 Greenough St., Haverhill, was arrested at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, at the intersection of Brook Street and Albert Avenue. Under an outstanding warrant, he is charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle without an inspection sticker.

Earlier Tuesday, at 11:38 a.m., police arrested Raymondo Gonzalez, 23, of 28 Arch St., Haverhill, at 35 Washington St. In addition to a charge of driving without a license, he was cited for a crosswalk violation.
