Sonja Marie Norwood, 40, Taught English as Second Language

Sonja Marie Norwood, 40, of Haverhill, died July 20.

She was born April 15, 1975, in Boston. Growing up in Massachusetts, France, and Chicago, Norwood developed a great love for teaching. She graduated from Western Kentucky University and then received her master’s in Applied Linguistics from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She then went on to teach in the field of English as a Second Language in Tennessee, Maryland and Virginia.

Formerly living in Laurel, Md., Norwood was highly involved at Grace Community Church in Columbia, Md. She loved hiking, reading, painting, and “antiquing,” as well as being with family and friends.

She is survived by her parents, Richard and Suzanne Norwood; two sisters, Juliana Norwood and Marguerite Barigala; and three nieces, Hannah, Tanusha, and Reeya.
