Northern Essex Community College (NECC) has taken over management of Quarrybrook Learning Center, a private non-profit outdoor education center in Windham, N.H.

In a letter to college trustees, NECC President Lane A. Glenn explained Quarrybrook is funded by the El Hefni Technical Training Foundation, which also funds certain college programs.

“Quarrybrook offers hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences to a K-12 audience on a 245-acre campus featuring trails and outdoor gathering spaces and a 20,000 square foot facility with a large fireplace and gathering room and multiple flexible ‘classroom spaces.’” said Glenn.

The partnership with Quarrybrook Learning Center allows NECC students and educators opportunities to strengthen relationships with K-12 students. “College faculty and staff will also have access to the facility, and we expect to generate revenue for the college as we grow enrollments and expand the current programming,” he said.

The current interim director of NECC’s Cultural and International Studies Institute, Marcy Yeager, has been named the executive director of Quarrybrook, alongside Education Development Director Kirsten Kortz, current coordinator of the college success course.
