Edward J. Moore, 71, Retired Electronic Engineer

Edward J. Moore, 71, of Haverhill, died Thursday morning, June 25, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston.

He was born in Haverhill, July 20, 1943, son of the late Leroy W. and Alice J. (Smith) Moore. Educated in the Plaistow, N.H., and Haverhill school systems, Moore graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1961. He earned his electronic engineering degree from the University of Lowell. For more than 30 years he was employed as an electronic engineer for BAE Systems, from where he retired in 2002. An avid bowler, Moore and his wife Bette, were members of the “Jack and Jill Bowling League” at Pilgrim Lanes for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed line dancing, watching football and basketball, reading and dining out with family and friends.

His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Bette A. (Jardine) Moore of Haverhill, two daughters, Karen M. Zybert and her husband Peter of Haverhill, Cynthia A. Hathaway of Portsmouth, NH, a brother, John Moore and his wife Roxanne of Wakefield, NH, a sister, Virginia Sacks of New York, brother-in-law, Richard Froias and his wife Roberta of Plaistow, N.H., six grandchildren, Christopher, Cody and Aislyn Zybert, Alyssa, Jessica and Kevin Hathaway as well as several nieces, nephews and several lifelong friends. Mr. Moore was also the father of the late Edward J. “Ted” Moore, Jr. who died in 1991, and brother of the late, Alice Froias and Janet Sharrio. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours on Wednesday, July 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His Funeral will be held on Thursday morning, July 2, beginning at 9:00 at the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. James Church, Winter St., Haverhill. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow, NH. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
