Fiorentini Hosts Mayors for Transportation, Education Talk Wednesday

A mayoral summit, of sorts, with state transportation and education leaders comes to downtown Haverhill Wednesday.

The city of Haverhill will play host Wednesday to Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack, Secretary of Education James Peyser and a number of mayors from across the state to “discuss the best ways to improve the quality of transportation and education.” A monthly meeting of the Massachusetts Mayors Association will be convened by Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini, association president, at 9 a.m., Wednesday, at 90 Washington St., Haverhill.

“These are vital issues that need immediate attention and action, and all of our cities must work closely with the state to advance a common agenda to build strong communities and a stronger economy,” Fiorentini said. “We have a lot to be proud of in Haverhill, and I look forward to showcasing what we have accomplished over the past 12 years.”

So far this year, the mayors have met with Governor Charles D. Baker, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, Attorney General Maura Healey, and other top officials, according to Fiorentini.

“We are deeply grateful to Mayor Fiorentini for his leadership, and for convening this important meeting in the City of Haverhill,” said MMA Executive Director and CEO Geoffrey C. Beckwith.  “Mayor Fiorentini is highly respected by all the mayors of Massachusetts, and they are excited to visit his hometown.”
