Police Arrest 26-Year-Old on Attempted Strangulation Charge

A Haverhill man sought by police on attempted strangulation charges was taken into custody Thursday as the result of a traffic stop.

Haverhill police report Jason Penton, 26, of 106 Presidential Drive, Haverhill, was arrested at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, on South Main Street. Under an outstanding warrant, he is charged with assault and battery, malicious damage under $250 and strangulation. He was additionally charged Thursday with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He was to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court.

In other police news, an ongoing warrant sweep brings another two Haverhill residents, including a juvenile, to face separate charges in court.

According to Haverhill police, a 17-year old male juvenile was taken into custody at 12:50 p.m., Thursday, on Primrose Street. He will face a charge of malicious damage over $250 in a juvenile court.

Also, police arrested Hipolito L. Gonzalez, 21, of 12 Grand Ave., Haverhill, at 5:50 p.m., Thursday, at 81 Winter St. Under an outstanding warrant, he is charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and improper operation of a motor vehicle.
