Chelmsford’s Parow Becomes Interim Haverhill Fire Chief

A former Chelmsford fire chief was named interim Haverhill fire chief Thursday by Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini.

John E. Parow served 16 years as Chelmsford’s fire chief and most recently served as interim chief in Ipswich. Parow takes over from Deputy Fire Chief William F. Laliberty, who was named acting fire chief earlier this week. The city began advertising for a permanent successor to late Fire Chief Richard B. Borden last week.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve the City of Haverhill as their interim fire chief. I look forward in working with the city, Mayor Fiorentini, Chief DeNaro and Firefighters’ Local 1011 to help an already respected department be the finest in Essex County,” Parow said in a written statement.

He is a past president and chairman of the board of directors of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Parow is also an adjunct professor at Anna Maria College in the Fire Science and Management Program, according to Fiorentini.

“Chief Parow is a nationally recognized expert in his field of fire science. I am confident he will do a great job in filling in as interim acting fire chief,” Fiorentini said.

Earlier this week, Fiorentini told WHAV what he expects from an interim chief.

“The acting fire chief will give me an outside, independent assessment of the department and help me choose the best possible new chief to take our city and our fire department forward,” Fiorentini said.

Parow received his master’s degree from the State University of New York and a bachelor’s in Fire Engineering and Safety Technology from the University of Cincinnati. He has certifications and his numerous writings have been published in professional fire publications. He was also appointed by past Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to serve on the Homeland Security Science and Technology Advisory Committee.

  1. “Firefighters’ Local 1011…an already respected department be the finest in Essex County,”
Just what the city needs…another fire fighter hack towing the party line.

Maybe someone should update him on the ‘real’ facts about Haverhill’s fireboys before he shows up for his first day of work. Like tell him how 30 of them conspired with each other to steal over $55,000.00 from city taxpayers. Or how the whole department secretly worked overtime covering for a brother who was serving time in jail for drunk driving. Or how the drunk who was in jail drove a city fire truck for almost 2 decades without a valid driver’s license. And then there is the sick time scam this bunch of thieves and liars was running to cheat the city out of unnecessary overtime pay. Let’s not forget the Haverhill fire hack who was arrested in Methuen for beating up his daughter’s boyfriend and then found to have a house full of automatic weapons. Last but not least, there was the Haverhill fireboy who admitted publicly that they didn’t respond to a house fire quickly in which an 80 year old woman died when should would have lived had they gotten there in time, all because this fine group of Haverhill employees was not happy with the mayor and his contract offers.

John Parow… you instantly lose any credibility you may have earned in your career by calling this group of thieves, liars and cheats ‘respected’. Everyone in the city knows what hacks they are and what they stand for.
