Janet ‘Jan’ Cummings, 70, Worked at Area Car Dealerships

Janet “Jan” Cummings, 70, formerly of Haverhill, died June 1, at her home in North Palm Beach, Fla. after a long battle with Parkinson’s.

She was born March 8, 1945 in Lawrence, daughter of the late Leon and Laura (Roy) Croteau. She attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School, both in Lawrence. Cummings worked for many years in various area automobile dealerships, including Wall’s Lincoln Mercury, English Chevrolet, Best Buick and Port City Chrysler. Prior to moving to Florida, she and her husband lived many years in Haverhill and Plaistow, N.H. She attended Calvary Chapel, Jupiter, Fla.

Cummings is survived by her husband of 33 years, David J. Cummings, son Michael Nerney and his wife Suzanne of Bel Air, Md.; daughter Jill Snowney and her husband Brian of Tequesta, Fla.; four brothers Father Roger Croteau of Derry, N.H., Roy Croteau and his wife Virginia of Amesbury, Richard Croteau and his wife Marlene of Lawrence, and Donald Croteau and his wife Lorna of Methuen; two sisters Annette Bowman and her husband Daniel of Palm Coast, Fla. and Denyse Student and her husband Laurence of Palm Coast, Fla.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Faith Wendell of Plaistow, N.H. She also leaves grandchildren Jordan and Jonathan Nerney of Bel Air, Md., Nicolas Snowney and his wife Taylor of Tequesta, Fla., and Joseph, Riley and Colin Snowney of Tequesta, Fla. She was great-grandmother to Maclen Snowney of Tequesta, Fla. She was predeceased by her step-son David M. Cummings.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours Thursday June 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday June 12 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer Street, Haverhill, MA 01830. Her funeral service will be Friday June 12, 10 a.m., at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amesbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made payable to Calvary Baptist Church, 206 E. Courtland Place, Bel Air, MD 21014. All memorial contributions received will be used equally to benefit future missions efforts of Calvary Baptist Church in Bel Air, MD where her son Michael serves as pastor and Cummings’s home church, Calvary Chapel of Jupiter, Fla.
