Police Arrest Retired Deputy Fire Chief on 2nd Drunk Driving Charge

Two Haverhill motorists face drunken driving charges in district court following their arrests by police over the weekend.

Retired Haverhill Deputy Fire Chief John J. Landers, 62, of 28 Wayne St., Haverhill, was arrested at 3 p.m., Friday, by Haverhill police on Lincolnshire Drive. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence (second offense), failure to keep right and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

According to Haverhill police, Garrett Hammond, 22, of 54 Old Yankee Road, Haverhill, was also arrested at 12:50 a.m., Sunday, at 1109 Broadway. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
