Main Street Crash Brings Drunk Driving Arrest

Automobile traffic through upper Main Street Saturday morning was stalled for hours after an alleged drunk driver struck a utility pole.

Jesse George, 23, of Plaistow, N.H., was arrested at 5:54 a.m., Saturday, on Main Street at Meadow Lane. He was charged with operating under the influence of liquor.

Route 125 was largely closed from Interstate 495 to Rosemont Street while the vehicle was removed and crews replaced the pole. WHAV is awaiting further detail from Haverhill police.

The Memorial Day holiday weekend also brought the arrests of three other motorists Saturday on drunk driving charges.

Haverhill police report Helen Deiosta, 52, of 50 Acorn St., Haverhill, was arrested at 12:39 a.m., Saturday, on Monument Street. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor.

Jordan Tilden, 26, of 15 Albert Ave., Haverhill, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of liquor (second offense) at 4:11 a.m., Saturday, on Willie Street.

Also, Michael Daneau, 51, of 332 Boxford Road, Haverhill, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of liquor (second offense) at 6:11 p.m., Saturday, on Bailey Boulevard.

Each is due to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court.

In other police reports, a Haverhill man, accused of sexual assault, is due to be arraigned in district court following his arrest Sunday. According to Haverhill Police, Felix J. Caballero, 24, of 116 High St., unit 3, Haverhill, was arrested at 12:10 p.m., Sunday. He was charged with assault with intent to rape and intimidation of a witness.

An investigation by Haverhill police into a disturbance early Monday on High Street lead to the arrest of two people on assault and alcohol-related charges.

Police report Nickolas Samperi, 20, of 22 Lamoille Ave., Haverhill, was arrested at 3:30 a.m., Monday. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, being a minor in possession of alcohol and with an open container violation.

Also arrested was Simone I. Turcotte, 21, of 500 West Lowell Ave., Haverhill. She was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, delivery of liquor to a person under 21 and with having an open container in a motor vehicle.

They are due to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court.

A Haverhill man accused of theft is due to appear in court after his arrest Saturday. According to Haverhill police, Gregory Balley, 29, of 108 Montclair Road, Haverhill, was arrested on a single count of larceny over $250. The arrest occurred at 12:10 p.m., Saturday.

  1. Will these people never learn that drinking and driving doesn’t mix? They are a menace on the road and a danger to all of us who are out there sober and minding our own business.

    I hope it costs a fortune for them to redeem themselves, that they lose their license to drive, and that they finally learn they need a designated driver if they are going to drink and need a ride home.

    The idiot who was driving drunk on Main Street early Saturday morning caused major inconvenience and lost time for everyone who needed to use upper Main Street to get somewhere or to get home.
