The new commercial building replacing F. W. Woolworth’s in downtown Haverhill will be known as “Pentucket Bank Plaza,” bank officials said Tuesday.
The five-story building is one of two associated with Harbor Place being developed by a consortium of the Greater Haverhill Foundation and the Boston Archdiocese’s Planning Office for Urban Affairs Inc. The other building is a proposed 80-unit housing complex.
“It is our privilege to have the Pentucket Bank name linked to the most impactful downtown development initiative in Haverhill’s recent history,” said Scott Cote, president/CEO of Pentucket Bank. “We are proud of the deep roots we have in Haverhill and feel strongly that making a long-term commitment to our city’s downtown demonstrates our commitment to our customers, employees and the continued betterment of the Haverhill community for the foreseeable future.”
Pentucket Bank is also leasing the fourth floor of the new commercial building. Other owners and tenants include UMass Lowell, second and third floors; local accountant Randall Bennett, fifth and top floor; and Haverhill Community Television, a street-level corner condominium.
Pentucket Bank had previously announced it would demolish its old headquarters—a building at 35 Merrimack St., renovated in 1960 by the bank and previously home to the Haverhill Foundation and Reinhold Shoe Store. It current headquarters at 1 Merrimack St. will remain a branch office.
Pentucket Bank’s naming rights include new signs at the top of the building, officials said.
“Additionally, the new riverfront plaza will be a wonderful location for local businesses and citizens to congregate and have easy, public access to the river,” Cote said.
