A series of language revisions to existing city ordinances governing food truck vendors, taxicabs and “tag days” soliciting on public ways are headed out of subcommittee review for votes by the full Haverhill city council in two weeks.
Councilors Tuesday night will place on file for two weeks proposed changes that would, among other things, regulate licensed food truck operations within the city to “any reasonable site” that is “reasonably designed to accommodate and provide for the public need” without negative impacts to public health, safety or “the quality of life while in operation.” Also, food trucks would be restricted from the central business district, “except for special events as permitted by the city council.” Councilor William J. Macek served as a policy wonk during earlier subcommittee discussions, combing through and updating existing ordinances.
The council’s Administration and Finance committee, headed by Councilor Colin F. LePage, approved the language revisions.
The Haverhill city council meets at 7 p.m., tonight, in council chambers at Haverhill City Hall.
I’m sure the mayor will rewrite the language of the Food Truck ordinance before it reaches the full city council to make it “mandatory” that a truck be located outside the Fiorentini Weed Distribution Center.
