Koula ‘Kay’ Karampelas, Former Puritan Ice Cream Employee

Koula “Kay” Karampelas of Haverhill passed away Thursday, May 7, at Holy Family Hospital.

She was born in Haverhill, daughter of the late Sarantos and Lillian (Prasses) Karampelas. Karampelas was educated in the Haverhill Schools and at an early age worked in the family business Puritan Ice Cream for many years. Subsequently she and her sister owned and operated the Golden Halo Beauty Salon in Groveland for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill.

She leaves her sister Helen Karampelas with whom she resided; her brother John Karampelas and his wife Anna of Haverhill; a niece Christine A. and her husband Jonathan Gifford of Plaistow, N.H.; great nephews Chad and Jonathan Tannian; great great niece Brooklynn Tannian; and godson James Plasteras.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation Monday, May 11 from 10 to 10:45 followed by a funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Holy Apostles Church, 154 Winter St. Haverhill. Interment will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Holy Apostles Church, 154-156 Winter St. Haverhill, MA 01830.
