Walnut Sq. Crash Knocks Down Utility Pole, Sends Driver to Hospital

A young woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance after her car struck a utility pole at about 10:50 p.m., on Main Street near Walnut Square.

José and Gus Deltoro, who live near the crash site, said they pulled the woman from the car after witnessing a bright flash and watching electric wires fall across the street.

“We pulled the lady out of the car. She’s like probably, 21,” Jose Deltoro said. Police and fire officials blocked the street, causing traffic to detour down the avenues.

“There was sparks all of the way down. There were wires hanging all the way down there. We were upstairs. The light, the sparks was so bright it lit up all of this in one spot, in one shot. It was bad. I thought it was a bomb, a bomb came out of here.”

The identity of the woman or her condition has not yet been released.
